Monochrome

Monochrome photography (black and white) is particularly suited to storm photography. Many Nor’easters are best appreciated in monochrome. It creates drama between the interplay of light and dark and seemingly unlimited shades of grey. Because there is no color to distract us, we pay more attention to details- energy, light, contrast, shapes and depth of field, resulting in more intricate and intimate seascapes. It I said that people spend more time examining a monochrome image because the lack of color is momentarily disarming. We have to orient to the image and take in the details before we appreciate its’ magic.
